How do I get a credit for returning empty cartridges to the Cartridge Return Center (pre-printed UPS label provided in packaging)?
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) sometimes have return programs for the products they sell you, where they ask you to return your used product directly to them.
Return programs
A return program is usually an agreement between the end-user and the manufacturer, where the end-user agrees to return the used product back to the manufacturer for recycling. Different manufacturers have different programs, ranging from just providing a free return label, to giving away free products when the end-user returns a given amount of used product within a certain time frame (usually one year).
As these programs vary, please consult your product manual for details about any programs that the item can be part of.
Prebate programs
Some companies run so-called Prebate Programs, where you can purchase the cartridge for less, but they ask you to return the empty core to them when it runs out of ink or toner. These manufacturers include prepaid shipping labels for returning the empties.
The discount is given upfront in good faith, so that you return your empties.
Important notice
IMPORTANT: When you use a product which is on a return, prebate or similar program, usually when you open the box, you automatically agree to return the empty core to the Original Equipment Manufacturer. You also agree not to send it anywhere else or try to recycle it yourself. Doing so, will breach your contract agreement. Please read the contract carefully.
