The cartridges I received seem to be empty.
In the case of toner cartridges you may be required to remove a protective seal prior to installation. This seal prevents any leakage of toner during shipping. Please check your box for instructions on properly removing the seal. During delivery, if the product was exposed to severe cold weather, toner and ink products may experience a temporary change in characteristics. Please allow the product ample time to adapt to room temperature. (normally 2-3 hrs) The toner cartridge may require gentle shaking from side to side to break up any toner clusters. Ink cartridges will generally work fine after allowing the ink to adapt to normal room temperature. Ink cartridges do not require any shaking. This could damage and contaminate the inks. Also check if the vent tape (found on most Epson type cartridges) has been completely removed from the cartridge. The proper venting will allow consistent ink flow into the print head and insure the proper operation of the printing device. If you have ordered a cartridge that has a built in print head (for example most HP, Lexmark, and Dell are of this type) then you may experience what is referred to as “cartridge stress”. This is where the nozzles may become clogged at the point of delivery. Ink expands during air shipment and a small amount can enter the nozzles and cause a clog. This problem can be easily solved in most cases by removing the cartridge from the printer, take it to your sink or laundry tub, take a paper towel fold into a pad (image folding the paper towel 4 times), and run hot water over the paper towel until it is nice and hot. Gentle apply it to the bottom of the cartridge (print head area only). Do not apply any moisture to the copper strip where the electronic circuits are located. Repeat this process a few times to allow the heat and moisture to dissolve any ink at the tip of the print head. Once you see all colors or dark black ink on the paper towel, chances are you have dissolved the clog. Dry the print head with another paper towel and insert back into printer. Run a full ink cleaning cycle (generally, this maintenance feature is found in the Printer Properties section of the Printer file.)
Finding the cleaning cycle.
On the "Desktop" go to "Control Panel", find the "Default Printer", right click on the default printer and scroll down to "Properties". There you should be able to locate the nozzle cleaning cycle.
